Lenten Rose III / Helleborus x hybridus

Helleborus x hybridus ‘Yellow Lady’ – A seed strain which produces a true yellow colour 80% of the time. These may vary from cream to clear yellow, or yellow with light to heavy burgundy spotting. The single blooms are borne from February to April on plants whose foliage stays evergreen in mild winters. Grows 14 to 18″ high and is hardy to zone 4-5.

Helleborus x hybridus ‘Ruby Wine’ –  A newer colour strain with large single blooms of a rich burgundy-red, with some colour variation and contrasting yellow stamens. These are in flower from late winter through to early spring and were bred by Marietta O’Byrne of Oregon. ‘Ruby Wine’ grows to 14″ high, is part of the Winter Jewels Series and hardy to zone 4.

Helleborus x hybridus ‘Golden Lotus’ – A delightful and much sought after double Hellebore strain which is also part of the Winter Jewels Series. Buy these variable plants in bloom, as the flower colour can range from clear yellow, to yellow with an apricot blush or a reddish-purple picotee. The large blooms (2-3.5″ wide) reach heights of 12-14″ and the plant is hardy to zone 5.

Helleborus x hybridus ‘Red Lady’ – A deer-resistant seed strain with variable single blooms ranging from reddish-pink to burgundy red, with contrasting golden-yellow stamens. These plants generally have good vigour with foliage that remains evergreen through mild winters. ‘Red Lady’ grows to 18″ high and is hardy to zone 4-5.
