Solenostemon scutellarioides ‘ColorBlaze MAROONED’ – One of the Proven Winners selections with tapered, scalloped foliage of a clear burgundy red. It tolerates both sun and shade but is best placed by itself in containers due to its vigorous growth habit. In bedding situations it pairs well with yellow Osteospermum or white Cosmos. Grows 24-36″ tall by 18-36″ wide. Annual.
Solenostemon scutellarioides ‘Gay’s Delight’ – Another Proven Winners variety with eye-catching foliage of iridescent lime green with purplish-black veining. It is a sun tolerant type which looks absolutely stunning as a solitary container feature. ‘Gay’s Delight’ is a low maintenance bedding plant that fills out fast and is deer resistant. Grows 24-36″ tall by 24″ wide. Annual (Zone 10).
Solenostemon hybrida ‘Redhead’ (syn. ‘UFO646’) – This is probably the truest red of any Coleus available with large serrated leaves that cover the well-branched plants. They flower very late in the season at which time the blooms should be dis-budded. ‘Redhead’ is a sun tolerant hybrid which can also be grown in shade to part shade. Grows 18-24″ high by 16-28″ wide.
Solenostemon scutellarioides ‘Sunny Sandra’ – A Tried and True variety which is smaller in stature and features multicoloured foliage of green, red and yellow. The tapered leaves form on a tight plant which would be useful as an accent in mixed containers or hanging baskets. Prefers evenly moist soil with regular fertilization. Grows 14-18″ tall by 12-14″ wide. Annual.
Solenostemon scutellarioides ‘Black Dragon’ – A Coleus noted for its unusual leaf form (deeply serrated edges and slight puckering) as well as its spectacular colouring of a deep smokey purple with some inset red highlights. Due to its compact nature, ‘Black Dragon’ also works well as a houseplant but is equally useful in the shaded outdoors. Grows 12″ high and wide. Annual.
