Hybrid Tea Roses III

Rosa GRANDE AMORE (syn. ‘KORcoluma’, ‘My Valentine’, ‘Walter Sisulu’) (Kordes 1995) (‘Christopher Columbus’ x unknown seedling) – This rose exhibits typical hybrid tea form with strong stems that make a good cut flower. It bears lightly scented 4″ wide blooms of a deep red with semi-glossy dark green foliage. Grows 4-5′ high by 3′ wide. Hardy to zone 6.

Rosa ‘Over the Moon’ (syn. ‘ORAclelon’) (Orard 2005) (‘Christopher Columbus’ x ‘Cleopatra’) – Many gardeners find this to be an improved ‘Just Joey’ with its 5″ wide apricot blend blooms (with a yellow reverse and caramel undertones) that emit a fruity fragrance. It repeat blooms throughout the season and has matte green foliage. Grows 4-5′ high by 3′ wide. Zone 5.

Rosa ‘Perception’ (syn. ‘Cindy’, ‘HARzippee’, ‘LeAnn Rimes’) (Harkness 1998) ( ‘Dr. Darley’ x ‘Sweetheart’) – This rose is called ‘LeAnn Rimes’ in America and ‘Perception’ in the UK, after the Royal Institute for the Blind. It features strongly fragrant 5″ wide pink blend blooms with rose-pink edges and a white reverse. Grows 5-7′ high by 3′ wide. Hardy to zone 7.

Rosa ‘Miss Oakley Fisher’ (Cant & Sons 1921) – This is a classic hybrid tea rose from the 1920’s that continues to enjoy popularity. The 3″ wide single blooms (with 4-8 petals) are a deep yellow with warm apricot undertones, nicely complimented by golden stamens. It has good fragrance and is more compact than most hybrid teas. Grows 3-4′ high by 2-3′ wide. Zone 6.

Rosa ‘Tropicana’ (syn. ‘Super Star’, ‘TANorstar’) (Tantau 1960) ([unknown seedling x ‘Peace] x [unknown seedling x ‘Alpine Glow’]) – This 1963 AARS winner features deep salmon-pink flowers with crimson overtones that emerge from tall pointed buds. It repeat blooms throughout the season and has a strong fruity fragrance. Grows 4-6′ high by 3′ wide. Zone 5.
